Retail Experience with Pick n Pay
Township® began collaborating with Pick n Pay leading South African retail chain in 1999, when our eco-friendly fair trade shopping bags were first introduced as a sustainable staple in Western Cape stores. Since then we’have sold more 1.2 million bags via Pick n Pay stores nationwide and abroad, creating sustained work for women-run sewing co-ops in township communities.
In particular, we were the first supplier to introduce Pick n Pay to the concept of recycled PET in 2017; 320,000 bags were sold during that campaign with impressive social and environmental impact: 30% labour content and 390,000 reused plastic bottles.
Today we are looking for new retail partners to expand beyond this initial experience and continue to support our network of cooperatives which are truly benefitting from volume orders with high labour content.
